These low-profile Rail Protectors, manufactured by Falcon Industries, are primarily used to protect MIL-STD-1913 "Picatinny" rails from damage and protect other equipment (like ropes or slings) from sharp edges of exposed rails. The low-profile design allows for maximum cooling. They can be used on any milspec rails, including products from Colt, LaRue, Knights, A.R.M.S., GG&G and others.
Made of the slightly rubbery but firm thermoplastic, Santoprene, the covers simply and securely snap into place over the rails. Each unit covers an entire M4 carbine rail section (6-7/8"/18 slots) -- and then some! It is overlength, designed to be trimmed by the user to any desired length, including full rails on forend or receiver top.
These mix and match nicely with the larger MagPul XT Rail Panels. Some prefer to use these entirely, while others like to use them on the top and bottom rails, while keeping the full-size panels on the side for armoring. Others prefer the opposite, putting these on the sides and the thicker panels on the top and bottom. This offers a more oval cross-section, much like the feel of the older M4 handguards.
Whatever your preference, they work! You can snap them onto the very exposed rails of a flattop upper receiver or an aftermarket accessory rail without adding an appreciable bulk to the weapon. Their rubbery construction not only safeguards the very expensive rails on your weapon, it also keeps the covers themselves from cracking or breaking upon impact. Think of it as up-armoring your rifle!Available in Black, O.D., Coyote Brown and Dark Earth.
